My TV has only S/PDIF output available for sound, so I bought this DAC to connect my RCA speakers. Works like a charm!
Easy to connect. Does the job perfectly. I plugged in headphones with a long cable and the rest of the people in the house found their peace!
Update 17/2/23 The sound cannot be heard from the headphones when you enter the Netflix platform. That's why I deduct one star, although I don't know if it somehow blocks the sound from Netflix to the outside.
In the beginning, it was making a buzzing sound. I changed the power supply and it still made the same sound. Finally, I used a power supply from a Samsung mobile phone and it stopped. From what I understood, it needs a good power supply in order to function properly
For some inexplicable reason, it plays normally connected to a smart TV for terrestrial (DVB-T) but not Netflix!!!...
After a few months, the device started producing a sound. It makes a slight noise that is really annoying when it's quiet, and I have to unplug it.
For statistical reasons, in the packaging I received, there was no optical cable, nor is it mentioned in the contents of the box or in the store description.
Functionally, it works as it should. You plug it into the power, connect one end to the optical (of the PS4 in this case), and the other to the speakers (Edifier) - via mini jack or RCA.
With the USB charger that comes with the packaging, there are MANY parasites through the mini jack and several through the RCA - more like a whistle actually, rather than noise. By trying a reputable mobile USB charger in place of this one, it works properly without parasites - so it's a bad power supply quality, but you can change it and do your job.
3 stars for now and I will come back soon.
The package does NOT include an optical cable and you have to buy it separately. My own 3.5 jack output produces a lot of noise-interference, so after the holidays, I will send it back for replacement. I didn't try RCA, but it doesn't bother me and it doesn't suit me. From what I saw in the comments, others have the same problem and indeed the problem is probably from the power supply, as when I move it behind the device, the noise-interference changes. I don't have another power supply to try, and I won't go through the process of experimentation. After the holidays, I will request a replacement from the store with the warranty and I will inform them.
However, it seems to do the job it promises if it works well. Of course, if you connect it to the TV, forget about the remote control for volume. Only the volume can be adjusted from the speaker amplifier.
As a result, it does what it says, it seems to have a sturdy construction and it came with a charger and an optical fiber cable. The sound is adjustable, but what I have done is to have the TV signal from a decoder that goes to the TV and then I take the audio signal from the TV, so when I adjust the volume on the decoder, it also happens on the external speakers.
For anyone who doesn't have any other option besides the optical out on their TV, this is the only way.
I needed it because I bought a soundbar with aux connection and unfortunately my TV didn't have RCA out, only in and the only out was the optical port.
Simple connection, almost funny. In my product, it also included a 5V charger and an optical cable. (I mention this because in other comments I saw that the cable is not included)
For its price, it's excellent and it does the job you need it for.
As for durability, only time will tell. For now, 5 stars.
The machine is a beast but it does its job super well. I connected an optical fiber to a 3.5mm jack output on a 2.1 speaker system and it rocks without any noise.
I have been using it for 2 to 3 weeks on a TV that only has optical output for sound. Good construction, metallic, and it comes with its charger in the package, which works fine for me without any problems, based on other users' comments. I don't have any interference in the sound, it comes out perfectly clear on the speakers. It's a very good and affordable solution for newer TVs that don't have a 3.5mm jack output for sound.
One downside, which I don't know if it depends on the TV or if it works this way with this converter, is that the volume control is no longer done through the remote control but should be adjusted on the speakers you have connected.
Just vfm... The reason I bought it is for my new TV which doesn't have a stereo jack output, only Bluetooth and optical fiber for sound. Every time I turned on/off the TV, I had to adjust the Bluetooth with the optical fiber once and that's it.
I needed it for headphone use because the smart TV I bought didn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack. I used the TV's optical audio output, but it only provides a fixed sound without the ability to adjust the volume. I connected the TV to a Toslink to Audio Amplifier and finally the headphones to the amplifier.
I have had it for about 3 months. With the power supply that came with it, the headphones had a strong noise (probably the power supply was faulty). I used another power supply that I had. The optical cable is not included in the package and must be purchased separately.
I have it for 1 month, it does what it says but it came with a broken power supply. Luckily, I had another one and I did my job. It only works for headphones unless you add an amplifier to the output.
I have been using it for a few months to transfer sound from the Playstation 4 to the PC, I had no problem.
