Description

The speakers TAV-808B from the company Taga Harmony Characterized as bookshelf speakers because they are placed on a shelf or special base, which is sold separately. In this category usually belong the main speakers of a sound system, but due to their small size they can also be used as peripherals for better sound simulation. The power and impedance of them are 90W RMS and 6Ω respectively, which means they can be connected to an amplifier with the corresponding characteristics. This is a speaker 2 way, meaning the sound frequencies are reproduced by two speakers, one tweeter for the high frequencies and one woofer for the low frequencies.

I am confused. I bought them after a recommendation from the store (I won't say which one, but it's one of the oldest in Attica) even though I initially had other options in mind. I got them in black, for 135 euros per pair. I have connected them to an 80s Technics 2x35 RMS @ 8ohms amplifier to listen to music from a turntable, CD player, and a mobile phone connected via RCA for Tidal. First of all, I have to say that these speakers have a flat sound, they don't color the sound at all. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as many people prefer such speakers. I have settled on +1 for the treble and +2 for the bass in the amplifier settings. While their sound is not bad, all the instruments are clearly there, there is something that bothers me and I can't figure out what it is. They tire me a bit during listening, I feel that something is not right, maybe the midrange is too forward (?) I haven't pinpointed it yet. I will give them some more time (I have had them for two months) and I am considering changing their position in the room to see if the experience improves. However, they can play loudly without any distortion and in terms of build quality, they are sturdy and give the impression of being more expensive.

    UPDATE 6/3/23

After several more listens, with a change in position in the room (they are placed at 60cm from the floor, 3 meters apart from each other, and 10 centimeters away from the wall) and +3 bass on the amplifier, they perform noticeably better. The sound is fuller (definitely not colored), everything is much clearer (low, mid, high frequencies), and now my ears don't get tired like they did with the previous setup. Overall, for this price range, they are excellent.

For my own acoustic opinion, I believe that they can compete with larger speakers. Bravo to Taga
