High-yield toners generally have the same size and shape as standard-yield toners but contain more toner powder packed into them. This means that a high-yield toner cartridge prints more pages before needing replacement, resulting in a lower cost per page.

Toners that fall under Lexmark's Return Program are printing toners sold at a reduced price, in exchange for the customer agreeing that the cartridges will be used only once and returned only to Lexmark for remanufacturing or recycling. These single-use toners stop functioning when they reach the end of their rated life, as determined by Lexmark (a variable amount of toner may remain in the toners when replacement is required). These toners can also automatically update the printer's memory to protect it from non-genuine and unauthorized products.
