External enclosure with USB 3.0 interface for 3.5-inch hard drive with SATA connector. The Natec Rhino is a sleek brushed aluminum case compatible with most 3.5-inch SATA drives.
Thanks to its aluminum construction, the device provides good disk protection and heat dissipation. Very fast file transfer of up to 5 Gb/s is ensured by USB 3.0 technology. The set includes a velvet pouch and a cable that connects the computer to the enclosure.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
Positive: The disk does not lose speed.
Negative: Very short USB cable. The disk heats up since the case does not ventilate from anywhere. The transformer blew up!!!
Info: In the reviews, someone writes that the maximum disk capacity is 3TB. I put on a "SEAGATE ST4000NE001 IRONWOLF PRO NAS 4TB" and it works perfectly, even at maximum speed!!! In fact, it says on the box that the maximum disk capacity is 8TB.
Good sturdy construction.
The major downside is that the disk goes into sleep mode and shuts down every 10 minutes. I tried three different disks and got the same result. I sent an email to the company asking if they have any updates or fixes for this issue, but they didn't even bother to reply. I also searched their website but found nothing.
Nonexistent technical support.
On the other hand, for the LOGILINK UA0107 case that had the same problem, they responded immediately and provided me with a software update (firmware) for the case that solves the problem.
Very good and affordable case! Aluminum body for easy heat transfer, although it does get a little warm when in continuous operation on the computer!
I have 3 of these cases and the disk gets extremely hot! Don't forget to keep it open for many hours because I see you saying goodbye to your disk.
I bought it to use with a Seagate Barracuda 3.5" and unfortunately, it doesn't fit by about a millimeter. I had to unscrew the back cover in order to fit and secure the front one, where the disk is connected and where all the ports and switches are located. It works fine and the build quality is quite good.
Very good case for the money spent on it. It is made of aluminum of satisfactory thickness and is rigid under typical pressures. The USB 3.0 circuit is housed in a plastic chassis, which also serves as one side (section) of the case, with the corresponding electronic connections (panel). Installing the disk in the case is very easy, just slide it in and the tabs on the sides will guide it smoothly into its correct position. "Pads" made of foam material placed at specific points inside ensure that the disk does not leave gaps between itself and the case, preventing any scratching. Additionally, the SATA connection is a matter of seconds, as the SATA DATA and POWER connections are made with a single plastic platform instead of separate cables, so all you have to do is attach the case cover to the correct side to connect the platform to the disk interfaces. There is no chance of the disk not fitting perfectly and securely on top of it. The external power supply is minimal, the length of the power cable is satisfactory, and the transformer is small and lightweight, with a single power cable connected to the transformer. The length of the USB 3.0 cable is satisfactory and relatively flexible. The compatibility of the USB 3.0 circuit is excellent, with USB 3.0 connection speeds averaging 155MB for a mechanical SATA3 disk and 350-400MB for an SSD. A blue LED always indicates the disk's operating status. The support base could have a wider footprint, as it does not provide the best support, especially when the USB 3.0 cable is stretched, as it pulls the entire case along with it and occasionally flips it over. Finally, the lack of a front on/off switch is overshadowed by the other characteristics in weighing the overall factors of the average purchasing decision. Disregard the photos that show the case as packaging content, especially the one showing the molex cable in a five-pin small connector, as it is not included and not necessary. The circuit reads everything. Very good product. The 5 stars are given due to the lack of another rating (between 4.1 and 4.3) in terms of its overall performance for its price, as it is simply not perfect. If you want to install a 3.5" disk but also a 2.5" one (without internal support-adapter) and have a USB 3.0 communication protocol connection, the case is ideal. However, if you are looking for a case with support for the newer USB 3.1 GEN 2 TYPE A or C 10Gbit/s communication protocol (mostly for SSD use due to speed performance) for supporting a 3.5" disk (not 2.5" which are available at similar prices) and are willing to pay about double the price, simply ignore this particular one.
