We were forced to reach the solution of elemental due to allergies. After three hypoallergenic formulas that our breastfeeding baby rejected, we concluded that Aminova is the final solution. I won't lie. It is very difficult for a breastfeeding baby to accept it. BUT after 14 days of intensive effort, even using a syringe to get used to the taste, he accepted it and drinks it exclusively. It really has a terrible taste, something like bitter potato, like all hypoallergenic formulas, and it requires a lot of shaking. We are forced to shake it with quite warm, but not hot, water. Once it is not consumed immediately, the milk clumps and thickens, making it unpleasant to drink a little later. Because we had very intense crying and the child couldn't calm down from the pain and the hidden reflux caused by the allergies, I assure you that if you are facing something like this and feel desperate for your little one, then you are in the right place. This milk is lifesaving. Courage and patience. Just fight to get him to accept it and you will see great improvement.
5 stars because this formula saved us after many formulas and disappointment because we didn't know what to give the baby. One caused many bowel movements to the point of concern, the other caused a lot of gas, and finally, the last solution was this formula, which is sometimes out of stock. Fortunately for us, when we needed it, we found it immediately, and the doctor prescribed it for us, so participation 0%. Mixing requires quite a bit of persistence. With warm water, I had to use a well-washed spoon. I asked the doctor because I felt guilty, and of course, he told me to relax. So, mixing with a spoon or fork is necessary; otherwise, it doesn't dissolve and remains clumpy. And also, and most importantly, the baby started gaining weight very well
Dear parent, to have reached the point of looking at this elemental milk, you must be desperate... just like we were. No proven allergies, no blood in the stool, no vomiting, no rash. But, in the end, a hidden GORD that caused oesophagitis in our 3-month-old baby. It took us two months to settle on this milk, we tried many alternatives. For two months, he was in pain and cried every time he drank milk, he was burning. It was a drama! With treatment and this milk, we are doing much better. Our pediatric gastroenterologist saw us and recommended it. Zero participation. The milk is like cement, it smells relatively good, tastes like powdered milk... But after 2 weeks of use and as our baby increased the amount, it started to smell wonderful, and I don't care about anything else. I say it's the best milk! I want to say it solved our problem. Hang in there, be patient.
Update at 6 months
We have reached 6 months and our baby continues to drink the same milk... but what happened? It's July, summer, and the milk has been out of stock for 20 days with an unknown expiration date.
Let's make it clear that this milk is the ultimate solution for intolerance/allergy problems.
From the birth of our little one until almost 5 months old, we tried many different foods (with consultation with the pediatrician, of course) because the child had indications of intolerance/allergy, but nothing clear. To cut a long story short, we tried partially hydrolyzed and extensively hydrolyzed milks before this one. Each one for at least 15 days. One milk caused constipation but made the child spit up a lot. The other milk caused spit up but gave the child excessive gas. The next one fixed the gas and spit up but caused diarrhea. And so on.
With aminova, from the very first day, the difference was evident. Everything was magically corrected. I don't need to say anything more about how it "worked like magic" for us.
BUT
1) The price is prohibitive. But luckily, this milk is covered. Because it would have helped us a lot if we had read about it somewhere, I am sharing it here with the hope that it might help someone. Buy 1-2 milks from your own pocket to see if it works for your child, and then go to a public hospital (only a public allergist with an appointment 1 month+ later, unfortunately) to have it prescribed if your child indeed has a problem. They prescribe around 10 milks/month. And if the pharmacy asks for a copayment, go somewhere else. The prescription states 0% copayment, but our allergist warned us to go somewhere else if they ask for money. And indeed, that's what happened in 2 pharmacies.
2) This milk doesn't dissolve easily at all. It requires lukewarm to hot water and stirring vigorously until the sun sets.
3) The milk has AWFUL taste. They told us that the partially/extensively hydrolyzed ones would be hard for the child to accept, but this fully hydrolyzed one is a category of its own. Personally, I apologized to the child for feeding them something like this.
In summary, 4 stars because the milk is a lifesaver for children with real intolerance/allergy issues, but it's very expensive and sustainable only with a prescription. It doesn't dissolve easily, but with practice, you can reduce the effort. Bad taste, but you overlook it because the child will calm down. And eventually, they will get used to it.
Courage and supportive greetings to everyone going through such issues.
It saved our baby's life. After many trials with hypoallergenic and intolerance products, this literally saved us! It may be expensive, but it's miraculous. Thank goodness for the pediatrician who recommended it and stopped our baby from suffering.
Our baby was born prematurely and had a milk intolerance. They recommended it to us and... we were saved! The only downside is that now, at almost 14 months old and having long overcome the intolerance, he doesn't want any more milk. Excellent milk but very expensive, and if it stays in the bottle for a long period of time, it spoils and forms lumps...
