The protagonist, Damian, known from "Let Me Tell You a Story" (former student), enters his fifth decade of life carrying on his shoulders a divorce, several problematic relationships, the loss of a beloved father, a demanding and tender sixty-five-year-old mother, a demanding career as a nephrologist, and many friends each with a different "complexity index." As a result, the presence of Jorge, -or "Fatty"-, the beloved psychoanalyst who had helped Damian in his youth, is deemed essential. Only Jorge-Fatty has disappeared...

The book follows the axis of "Let Me Tell You a Story" in terms of alternating between dead ends and redemptive stories, but the quests and conclusions differ, adapted to the mature age of the heroes and the conditions of (globalized) modern adult life.
