Tunnels are significant elements of modern road networks. Their large number, often considerable length, and the significant number of vehicles that use them daily entail particularly increased safety requirements for their users.

This book aims to study fires within tunnels and present methods of dealing with such incidents in a simple and understandable way.
It is primarily addressed to professional firefighter rescuers who will be called upon to handle a fire incident in the inhospitable environment of a tunnel. With the help of photographs and descriptive diagrams, all necessary information is provided regarding road tunnels such as construction elements, fire protection measures and means, etc.

At the same time, the peculiarities of a fire within a tunnel, the evolution of such an incident, and the phenomena that occur related to the development and distribution of temperature and the spread of its products are described.

Finally, ways of dealing with such an incident are presented, depending on the size of the fire, its location, and the characteristics of the tunnel, and instructions are given through an action memorandum and decision flowchart for the proposed intervention tactics.
