Description

The new SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) telephoto lens redefines 70-200mm telephoto lenses with enhanced optical performance, upgraded VC (Vibration Compensation), faster AF speed and accuracy, and a shorter Minimum Object Distance (MOD) for greater flexibility. Compatibility with Tamron's teleconverters adds additional optical length while maintaining the technological innovation of the SP series.

The optical design features include:

  • XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) optical elements that eliminate chromatic aberrations.
  • eBAND coating that provides protection against reflections.
  • Reduction of MOD from 1.3m to 0.95m, allowing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.1.

The lens features a circular USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor that ensures excellent focusing speed and accuracy. The Full-time Manual Focus function allows adjustments during AF use. The VC image stabilizer is equivalent to 5 stops according to CIPA standards and offers three VC settings, including one for panning.

This review is about the mount: Nikon F

I have had him here for a year on D610.
The weight is tremendously negative but you know it before you get him.
In terms of focus and especially image quality, he rocks.
He is the sharpest lens I have seen on a DSLR

Very sharp with nice colors and contrast. Faster than the G1 I had before for its price, it is super compared to the Nikon, which is a bit slower. Also, for me, very poor ergonomics on the buttons next to it. They stick out too much, resulting in image stabilization shutting down or autofocus locking from 3 meters to infinity, or manual focus being activated and when you lift the camera to take a photo, it doesn't focus or it is shaky. As a result, I constantly have to be mindful of this. I would give it 4 stars, but I'm giving it 5 because the price compared to the image quality it provides is unbeatable. It's like the saying goes, when they give you a free donkey, you don't look at its teeth. :)

Very fast focusing! The stabilizations really do the job, you gain a lot of stops. The tile helped me a lot, it helps you use the zoom more easily. Quite heavy but it's logical. They did a very good job at Tamron. It has a very nice construction, finally they got rid of those ugly gold things that I never liked, not even in Nikon. By the way, with the money that the new Nikon 70-200 makes, I bought two lenses. Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 and Sigma Art 84 1.4! :D
