I always believed that the Greek theater of the period 1953-1978, in which my father also starred (this was briefly the twenty-five years of his creation...), was not merely the artistic adventure of a group—and a broader circle—of talented writers, who had the fortune to coincide with a generation of unsurpassed actors. It was simultaneously the accompaniment and penetrating record of a society that, after the blood-soaked decade of the '40s, changes, evolves, and transforms in the Greece where my generation was born and raised. A Greece certainly poorer than today, but surely simpler, more optimistic, and perhaps more kind-hearted. In this sense, the theater of that era bears the weight of testimony for a country that in reality no longer exists except in our memories or personal experiences.
