[...] The short descriptions of the 100 "Greats" contained in this volume are the work of selected Greek scholars of antiquity, the Middle Ages, and modern Hellenism. With their participation, they offer the Greek audience an introduction to the "greats" that we believe will endure. If the effort to select the "hundred Great Greeks" leaves us with the memory of individuals who enriched our lives in various ways, and even better, if our endeavor prompts us to recall them through familiarity with their work, then this effort will have an educational impact with great resonance.
